Have the Rising Costs of Fabulous Clothes Crunched Your Style? |

These days, every amazing thing I fall in love with costs much, much more! While I'm still willing to splurge on fantastic items, I am choosier about what I buy and I am less impulsive. For example, I tend to pass on purchasing trendier items that will go out of style after one or two seasons and I invest in fewer, but better quality pieces. I also sign up for emails/mailings at my favorite local boutiques so I get notified when they have their sales.
What are your strategies for dealing with the rising costs of great clothes? Viv

I have noticed that prices have gone up as well, which is frustrating for someone trying to watch their budget! A strategy I use is that if I'm shopping and I find something I like, instead of buying it on the spot, I wait. I know that if I keep daydreaming about the item that I really do want it, and then make the choice to go back to buy it. But if I don't think about it again, it was probably just an impulse buy.

Although fabulous clothes are pricey these days- i dont let it cramp my style..I will say I am more thrifty on items that I'll only wear a couple times vs. the items in which you can use daily/weekly/mix n match, etc. I love to spend on items that I can use/wear from season to season. And I must say quality is a must on those pricey items. I tend to search out the item prior to buying right then and there...the more time I think about something the more I know its a must have! Another thing to keep in mind is that there are so many great consignment shops these days.. possibly you can sell those unworn items that you did buy on impulse in exchange/save for something thats more fabulous !

Prices are higher- there's no denying that. I find if I work on keeping daily expenses in check, I can still buy the season's must haves. I am definitely thrifty and wait for a sample sale as opposed to buying on the spot. I make myself think about the purchase before I pull out my wallet, but I certainly am not willing to sacrifice quality for quantity. I still shop at the same places, it is just more of a "treat" to splurge.

Prices may be higher but when you are paying for quality it actually works out to be cheaper! Think about it, if you purchase something that may be cheaper it probably wont last as long! I am all for spending on basics, now when it comes to fashion, thats a different story. I think it is ok to spend less on fashion, since you are probably going to toss it after the season anyway!!

I definitely have a fashion eye for more pricier pieces to add to my wardrobe, but I'd rather have a fat wallet and buy less expensive pieces that resemble the great designer trends and have good quality. I spend more on quality pieces such as shoes, handbags, or jackets and spend less on trendy items that will go out of style the next season. So, until I win the Super Lotto and become a multi-millionaire my wallet is tightly closed to pay for my monthly bills and less expensive items. Boo hoo!

The rising cost of fabulous clothes has not detered my obsession with buying them, or obsessing over them, I don't think that will ever happen. But I am a lot more concious of what I buy, how much I allow myself to spend, when I buy-end of season clearance, and how often I purchase clothes.

I'm a college student, have always loved shopping, but never had a LOT of money to spend so I always have to deal with making a lot out of nothing. I used to spend a lot more time obsessing over items on eluxury.com but lower-cost fashion is so exciting and abundant these days that it honestly doesn't really matter. Plus, there's always sample sales to get your designer fix. Fabulous clothes don't have to be costly and your creativity and commitment to style really shows when you have to do it on a budget.

Rising costs have little to no effect on my fashion purchasing habits. I spend the big bucks on timeless looks that won't go out of style, such as a classic Chanel bag. I spend money on clothes that are beautiful and versatile and will always look good, so I have no reason to feel guilty about spending so much. It can even be argued that trends are cycled every few years, so even if you want to buy some funky, trendy piece--you store it and bring it out a few years later when it's back in style!
